MATRIX Tw(O)rigins
Cosmological Bound (Ancient Instinct): A Cover of Creative Collaboration
between Paul Trinidad and Wayan Sujana “Suklu”
at Sudakara Art Space, Sanur, Bali
Opening on Friday 26th at 6.30pm

July 26th-August 26th, 2013

Wayan Seriyoga Parta, Curator

The encounter between two artists of different cultural backgrounds may give rise to unique collaboration as their experiences interact in the awareness to share ideas to each other. We can see it in the collaborative project between Paul Trinidad of Perth, Australia, with Wayan Sujana “Suklu” of Bali, Indonesia. They are artists as well as credible lecturers in their campuses. Paul is a lecturer of visual arts at ALVA University of Western Australia and Suklu is at Indonesian Institute of the Arts (Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI)) Denpasar. Their initial encounter was in 2010 when Paul along with the academic community of ALVA University of Western Australia visited ISI Denpasar for a drawing workshop with Suklu.
The intense communication had been taking place between them particularly since 2012 following the similarity of their studio names; Ancient Rock (BatuPurba) Studio (ARS) of Paul’s in Perth and BatuBelah (Broken Rock) Art Space (BBAS) of Suklu’s in Klungkung. In 2012, Suklu took an Artist in Residence program to Perth and worked at Paul’s ARS to explore hundreds of papers with “automatic drawings”, evoking back the memory of solid relation between Australia and especially Bali in reference to Kuta Boom Tragedy in 2002. According to Paul, he was keeping a specific strong memory on human incidents, violence, and deaths that was close to male perspective. Subsequently, Paul did the same residency at Suklu’s BBAS for a project leading to this Matrix Tw(O)rigins show.

“Nature fascinates me. When I see nature, I see geometry.  I am inspired by the structures created by the golden mean and its various permutations that emerge and evolve from the micro of the organism to the macro of the universe. My work is guided by the material itself – clay. I feel that in some ways, I am the material that I am working with: I am moulding clay, yet it is moulding me. I feel that my mind, vital and body must work in concert in order to manifest the forms, which I then offer to the fire. It is only then that I surrender to the exogenous forces of the cosmos. I am grateful to all the beings that have touched me and come together in creating this exhibition. The making is a collaborative process and your experience and interpretation of this work completes my journey.” ~Antra

Pameran Seni Rupa “Jakarta : 10 Perupa + 1 Penyair”

Judul Pameran : “Jakarta : 10 Perupa + 1 Penyair
Waktu : 22 Juni - 5 Juli 2013
Pembukaan : Sabtu, 22 Juni 2013, jam 19.00 wita
Tempat : Paros Art Gallery, Jl. Pantai Purnama, Banjar Palak, Sukawati, Gianyar, Bali.
Perupa : I Made Kaek, I Made ‘Romi’ Sukadana, I Made Somadita, I Wayan Linggih, I Wayan Arnata, I Ketut ‘Kaprus’ Jaya, I Ketut Mastrum, I Ketut ‘Kabul’ Suasana, I Nengah Sujena, dan Vinsensius Dedy Reru.

Tulisan Pengantar….

Sepuluh perupa tersebut adalah I Made Kaek, I Made ‘Romi’ Sukadana, I Made Somadita, I Wayan Linggih, I Wayan Arnata, I Ketut ‘Kaprus’ Jaya, I Ketut Mastrum, I Ketut ‘Kabul’ Suasana, I Nengah Sujena, dan Vinsensius Dedy Reru.

A solo exhibition by Farid Stevy Asta

Bahagia Itu Sederhana
(Being Happy Is Simple)

Curator: Rain Rosidi
Guest Writer: Susi Johnston

Kendra Gallery - Bali
29th June - 29th July 2013

Opening: Saturday, 29th June 2013, 7-9 PM

Opening act: Cangkang Serigala.

Farid Stevy Asta's current solo exhibition  is  called “Bahagia Itu Sederhana” (Being Happy is Simple). Difficult, stressful situations sometimes give birth to simple, but liberating conclusions. At least that was what Farid Stevy Asta had in mind before his hashtag  #bahagiaitusederhana (being happy is simple) appeared on social media. When Farid tweeted this hashtag on twitter after going through a peak moment in his social interactions, he found a mantra that could give him freedom: “being happy is  simple”. A mantra, brought to life through modern communications technology, which moved fast and could transcend all sorts of gaps, social strata and life problems, and at the same time, give birth to all kinds of creative work.
